A couple purchases

I tried to take a better picture, but I don't know how well it worked. The skirt (which I am definitely expecting mixed/bad reviews on, but... I like it!) is from Target, and the shirt was on clearance at New York and Co. It's a bit hard to tell from this pic, but it's a silky blouse with a faux wrap front.

I bought a couple other shirts on clearance at Charlotte Russe, but I'll save pictures from them for later. I took the picture above on the stairs outside my apartment (with my husband at the top of the stairs and me at the bottom), and it's supposed to snow 3-5 inches tonight. Brrr!

A nice idea for an outfit, but I still beleive that focusing the details closer to your face will help in your overall appearance.

It could be much much worse! Glad you like your purchases!

You are getting better at this.

I think the shirt is a bit snug in the mid-section. If you can see the outline of your bellybutton, then you know your shirt is too tight. Shirts look their best when they are fitted and just skim your body. Maybe one size up?

I believe a necklace would've enhanced your neckline with that deep V.

I don't hate the skirt, but I don't love it either. Kudos to being brave with design. It doesn't look bad on you at all, and the A-line was a good choice.

Not bad today, my friend.

I'm just curious if you try things on before you purchase them. My husband, being a typical guy, would never ever try anything on before buying it and always regretted it because nothing ever fit right.

Just because you generally wear a certain size, doesn't mean that no matter where you go the clothes will fit the same. Clothing companies are notorious for being all over the board with their cut and sizing.

It's something to think about.

Here I am, your 4am poster again! :)

While I applaud your effort, I think your aim was slightly off with this outfit.

Here are some more ideas for you to look at:

http://tinyurl.com/2odkeu

http://tinyurl.com/2oqcng

So, to summarize:

A-line skirt, good
V-neck shirt, good

print on the bottom, bad
tight shirt, bad

Keep trying! It won't happen overnight, but you are getting better!

I like the pose and the angle better for the picture, but it is a little dark.

I love the cut and texture of the blouse. I'm not sure on the size. You could add some detail with a necklace, perhaps even the one that you wore with the coral top. Or some red accessories would look good with it. You could wear those red shoes!

I can't see what the design on the skirt is, but I think it it looks nice. It is not overpowering, and the A-line is flattering on you.

Hi Katie,

i love the style of the blouse, but the size is not quite right. Also, I tend to stay away from tops that are shiny if they're on the snug side because the sheen draws attention to every little thing. Also, the cut of the skirt is fab, but the print is a bit much with all of that white. But I love that you're taking risks! Keep it up! Fashion is FUN!!!

That top (not to be mean) was on the clearance rack for a reason! I am all for shopping sales, but just because it is inexpensive does not make it a good buy! IMO, it looks REALLY cheap and poorly made, plus satin is hard to wear if you are not a size 0 (I am not so I can't wear it either!). However, the lines of the top are good for you! A top that fits you well in that style in a more matte fabric would look really nice.

The skirt is really cute and flattering on you. It would look really nice with a black knit top or sweater set or a knit top in a solid color. Also, accessories such as a fun chunky necklace would finish it off well. Good luck...you are making awesome progress but I would try to watch quality of items. It is better to have a few well made items that fit you well and you love than a closet full of things that are so-so and inexpensive!

I just wanted to say kudos for your whole blog site! I don't have a comment on the outfit but I just wanted to tell you that I too will be attending the Hamline admitted student days in March and am seriously considering the school. Have you been researching places and stuff to live in the area? I would love to talk to a fellow future student. If you want you can page me(chelsie43) on the MN board.

can i be honest? the first shirt is not flattering at all. The fit is not right and the color doesn't do anything for your skin tone.

I think it is great that you are doing this blog and I applaud your efforts, just wanted to give you my opinion.

I like the skirt, I would have went with a more cotton look for the top.
